Wild Barn Owl Hide

Photograph one of our most beautiful native owls from a static light set-up — no complicated flash. Just come with your camera, lens and a tripod.

The hide

UK · South Leicestershire

We have Barn Owls at the farm that are used to visiting under static artificial light. Harnessing the high-ISO capability of a modern digital camera, combined with a slow shutter speed, means you can do away with flash altogether for this session. During the summer months, when the days are longer, it is sometimes possible to photograph them in the last of the natural light. However, this wild behaviour varies from year to year, so it cannot be guaranteed.

We have an illuminated perch set up in an open space. All you need is a camera with a lens of at around 500mm to photograph the visiting Barn Owls.

Please be aware that these are wild birds, so the frequency and duration of their visits can be unpredictable. They do, however, visit the set-up regularly and, if undisturbed, can stay for several minutes at a time. We hope you'll capture a few pleasing images of this beautiful species by the end of the session.

Currently, we have two perches at the same location, so you can create a couple of different images. You'll be provided with good information upon booking, but this is not an instructional workshop.

You may also wish to combine this with the Buzzard Hide and the Kestrel Hide when available, on the same day, to qualify for a special rate.

Location

15 minutes from Junction 20 of the M1, near Market Harborough, South Leicestershire. Full directions are provided on booking.
